Before we get into what coaching is, let's discuss what it's not. Coaching is not psychotherapy. Even though some psychotherapy skills can be applied, like person-centered approach and active listening, coaching is not meant to address mental health conditions or concerns.
Coaching is a process that aims to help clients achieve concrete goals, identify and overcome obstacles to well-being and performance, and build skills that may be interfering with their success. Coaching is specific, goal-oriented, and can be conducted one-on-one or in a group. A coach is a person who helps others make progress in their lives, their work, relationships, health, or other day-to-day struggles. Coaches work with individuals or groups to help them become their best selves, and not to treat any type of mental health condition.
